The project is part of the mission's "90 Days of Summer Relief" campaign and "Water for the Homeless" outreach programs.
Volunteers are expected to hand out bottled water, long-sleeved shirts, hats, sunscreen and shoes to homeless.
Palm Desert podiatrist Harvey Danciger has offered his office as a collection point for used shoes for the past two years.
"I feel a sense of responsibility to give back to our valley's needy by asking my patients to give shoes to the needy,'' he said.
Founded in 1971, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission provides food, clothing, shelter, counseling, job training and job placement services.
Danciger's office is at 74-000 Country Club Drive, Suite A-2, in Palm Desert.
