(Chicago, IL) May 20, 2011- On Sunday, May 22nd, the Advanced Foot & Ankle is sponsoring the 7th Annual Share Your Soles 5k/10k Run/Race, which will be held at the “Great Lawn” of the beautiful Soldier Field, at 9:00 a.m.
Share Your Soles is celebrating its 12th year as a 501(c)(3) foundation and is poised for another decade of encouragement for people to care for others by sharing themselves. Along with providing new and gently worn shoes to those in need around the world; Share Your Soles inspires our youth with simple life lessons and philanthropy. Share Your Sole touches the hearts of hundreds of thousands. With volunteers in more than 30 states organizing shoe drives and special events to provide the support necessary to put shoes on the soles of children and adults. Illinois Secretary of State, Jesse White, has long been a partner and supporter of the Share Your Soles mission.
This past holiday season, Share Your Soles along with Advanced Foot & Ankle hosted the annual 3 week long Holiday Shoe Drive. AFA was able to raise national awareness for the Holiday Shoe Drive. In addition AFA collected hundreds of pairs of shoes through the shoe drive boxes throughout their Chicago and suburban locations; making this holiday giving season one of the most successful in Share Your Soles history.
Starting outside Gate 1 of Solder Field, run completely around the stadium, back through the event staging area, and meet up with the Lakefront path. Runners will pass McCormick Place and continue south on the path. 5K runners will turn around at the marked turnaround, and 10K runners will continue south until the marked 10K turnaround point. After each respective turnaround, runners head north on the Lakefront path to the finish line back by the staging area and Soldier Field.
Having distributed more than one million pairs of shoes to over 40 countries around the world and many locations in the US, including support within days of Hurricane Katrina. Shoes have offered people a means of transportation, improved health, education, employment, and in turn, a better life.
When you choose to make a difference in an innocent child’s life, you bring love, hope and a sense of belonging into their life – as well as your own. “It’s amazing what a pair of shoes can change in a child’s life,” commented Dr. Dave Charnota, an AFA Board member and renowned podiatrist based in Lake Zurich, IL.
The Event kicks off at Soldier Field at 9:00 a.m. Goodie bags will be distributed the morning of the event; there will also be a performance from the Jesse White Tumblers and music from DJ Dre.
